Rural Essex Landscape Art Exhibition

The Landscape Exhibition, held in the heart of rural Essex, is not just an event, but a grand celebration of the picturesque surroundings that this region is renowned for. It is a tribute to the awe-inspiring beauty of the landscape and the abundant nature that is part of our everyday lives here. This exhibition encapsulates how these elements of nature – the rolling hills, the lush green fields, the changing seasons – inspire us, stir our emotions, and encourage us to express ourselves. It showcases how these inspirations have been transformed into stunning works of art by some of the most talented local artists. The artists, with their diverse styles and unique perspectives, pay homage to the landscape that they interact with daily, creating a visual feast for the spectators at the exhibition.

A local artist from Great Easton who enjoys painting landscapes in both oils and watercolours. She takes her inspiration from the rural, north Essex landscape around her, which includes the ever-changing fields and the expansive East Anglia skies. Louise prefers to paint in a loose, expressive style, aiming to capture the light and feel of a place through bold brush strokes and contrasting colours. She was a ‘wildcard’ entrant in the 2018 and 2019 Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year competition and offers art tuition at local art clubs and from her home.

Your can read our “in conversation” with Louise and gain further insight into her thought process and artistic inspirations. Madeleine’s work aims to capture moments of peace and tranquility. She is inspired by “Komorebi”, a Japanese word describing sunlight streaming through the trees and leaves. Madeleine enjoys nature walks, watching the sunrise, and observing the light peeking through branches and leaves. Her two dogs accompany her on early morning strolls, where she sketches and paints in the great outdoors.

She resides on the Essex/Suffolk border with her husband and works from her garden studio. She also shares Ardleigh Studio with other artists. Over the years, Madeleine has exhibited her work locally. Previously an Art Textiles Teacher in high schools and Further Education colleges, she exhibited her work whilst teaching. In 2017, she decided to focus on her passion for art and has been a full-time artist since.
